My Biography

I am a Clinical Psychologist in private practice for over 30 years. I specialize in neuropsychological evaluations for adolescents and adults and in psychotherapy of difficult-to-treat problems.
I received my Undergraduate degree from Columbia University and my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University. I also have advanced degrees in Counseling Psychology from Temple University and in Religious Studies from the University of Toronto.
I have regularly provided psychotherapy, neuropsychological evaluations and vocational assessments for industry and individuals in my private practice. In addition, I have been employed as a psychologist on a neuro-rehabilitation inpatient service and have consulted as a therapist and psychological evaluations specialist at public and private secondary schools in New York and Connecticut.
My teaching experience consists of supervising the clinical work of graduate and post-graduate psychology students at Yale University and at Adelphi University.
My Philosophy
Every mental health clinician brings a personal history to bear when seeking to help a client. The personal facts that inform my work are these:
In my youth I was a monk. In my early professional life I was an English teacher. Since then, I married, became a father, completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Post-Doctoral training working with psychiatric inpatients, consulted on an inpatient neuro-rehabilitation service, and have supervised graduate and post-doctoral students in Psychology.
I believe these experiences have allowed me to see an individual not only in light of psychiatric and neurological problems and solutions. My experiences have attuned me to communicating the story of a person’s life so they can be better understood and understand themselves and their worth despite setbacks.
I have a stubborn trust in the individual’s potential for personal and spiritual growth. This growth is not about tenets of religious belief, but rather, the possibility that an individual can find resources and support to balance with the hard negatives of life. I try to make these human values part of the message that comes out with the science-based conclusions of the evaluations. I think that this serves not only to illuminate solutions, but also to instill the hope that is so often at risk when a person has been stymied psychologically.
About My Work
The distinguishing features of my work can be described as follows:
My evaluations are timely, (you will not have to wait more than a week for the report), comprehensive and personalized, i.e., besides giving the detail of the scientific data, I also explain the client’s problems and the recommended remedies in a practical manner, with examples that are attuned to the unique history of the individual.
The report seeks not only to inform the professional’s wish to help the client. I also aim at inspiring and guiding the person who is seeking help. Thus, you will not find that my reports use boilerplate professional jargon that is often present in assessments done elsewhere.
In my psychotherapy service I have long and successful experience in helping individuals who have a history of psychiatric problems that are prolonged and difficult to resolve.
